Truckstop and Teahouse, Logar 1988- Throughout the war, heavy trucks like this one lumbered across Afghanistan. Bedfords, Hinos, Mercedes all carried goods through battlefronts and borders delivering everything from weapons to drugs to consumer goods. The "Smugglers Bazaar" in Peshawar was about the size of a Home Depot and sold Soviet consumer goods like refrigerators and stoves, all carried by truck in spite of the war. The Afghan trucking Mafia is a little recognized and powerful player in regional politics. They continue to prop up the Taliban.
